Historic Southside High School honored again by Dinwiddie School Board
Last night the School Board voted to purchase signage to memorialize the county’s first African American high school. Initially the school opened as the Dinwiddie Normal Industrial School, it was later replaced with the current structure as Southside High School. At some point later in time this school was integrated and later served as Dinwiddie Middle School. This building was closed in 2012. Since then, our Board has voted to rename the building as “Historic Southside High School Education Center” to honor its heritage. Last night, the school board voted to fund 18" letters across the top of the school to spell out "Historic Southside High School Education Center". Currently, the building houses the Rivermont School for Autism and Dinwiddie County Social Services. In the future, a museum for Southside High School will also be housed in the building.
